Newcastle United v/s Manchester City
Manchester City take on Newcastle United as they look to overcome the psychological block of going down 3-2 to arch rivals Manchester United last Sunday in the Premier League and get back in the title race once again, now that they have fallen six points behind their rivals. City will travel to Newcastle upon Tyne for the match and according to Magpies midfielder Vurnon Anita, there is every chance that City will go for the kill and get the mental block from that defeat out of their minds by thumping the struggling side.
City could deem themselves extremely unlucky after getting back on level terms, being down 0-2 at half time but what transpired in the last three-four minutes of the match could be seen as extremely unfortunate for the side from the blue half of Manchester. Manager Roberto Mancini is under immense pressure to eke out a result this Saturday and if one believes the writings in the press recently, he has just three matches to save his job. Having been dumped out of the UEFA Champions League unceremoniously, Mancini will need to prove himself and even a repeat of last season’s Premier League success might not be enough to keep him in the job.
Apart from the fact that he will need to prove himself once again, there is the added pressure of getting the likes of his misfiring strikers perform again. The likes of Argentine striker Sergio Aguero, Italian striker Mario Balotelli have been extremely poor this season and although Carlos Tevez has been brilliant and has been a bright spot in the City attack throughout the season, his goals have also dried up over the last few weeks, both at home and in Europe.
After the suspension handed to Gareth Barry for confronting fourth referee Mark Clattenburg during the match against United, Mancini is likely to play with James Milner from the start with David Silva, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri again getting starts for the match. But it is the strike force which will have Mancini most worried as he ponders which two players to start the match with and it is almost certain that Tevez will play from the start along with Argentine team mate Sergio Aguero with the Italian Balotelli expected to be benched.
And the Italian manager will be looking for a positive result in order to get back in the title race.
