Free Picks College Football Week 11
Bryan Albin’s College Football Games of the Week
Last week I was a perfect 5-0 with my picks of the week’s top 5 games. This week is a pretty slow week in terms of quality games, so I will only preview 3 games this week, instead of 5.
3. Penn St. (+18) @ #8 Ohio St. (-18) – Penn St. has acknowledged that it is none too pleased to be 18 point underdogs to its Big Ten Rival. Matt McGloin has replaced Robert Bolden at QB for the Nittany Lions and did not turn it over in back to back wins over Michigan and Northwestern. Ohio St. meanwhile has cruised since its loss to Wisconsin. My guess is that Penn St. is too good defensively for Ohio St. to blow the Nittany Lions out, but I do expect the Buckeyes to win at home.
Pick: Penn St 14 Ohio St 26 Penn St Covers
2. #17 Mississippi St. (+13) @ #11 Alabama (-13) – Mississippi St. has been one of the surprises of the season as its in the Top 20 after starting the season unranked. Alabama on the other hand is coming off of a heartbreaking loss to LSU in which the Tide lost all hopes of a National Title opportunity and may have lost their chance to play in a BCS game as well. This should be an interesting matchup because it ought to come down to how inspired Alabama plays. With Nick Saban coaching this team, I expect the Tide to play angry and prove they are far more talented than the Bulldogs.
Pick: Miss St. 13 Alabama 31 Alabama covers
1. #23 South Carolina (+6.5) @ #22 Florida (-6.5) – Steve Spurrier finally has the Gamecocks on the verge of winning an SEC East title. The only team standing in his way is the Florida Gator team that he once led to a National Championship. Florida has been extremely disappointing this year offensively and probably will need to show some more firepower if it wants to beat the Gamecocks. The Gators may have found their weapon to replace Tim Tebow, though, as Freshman QB/TE Jordan Reed threw for 120 yards and a TD and rushed for 84 and a TD in the Gators’ win over Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks have been inconsistent this season, but they have shown up for big games. I expect them to show up one more time and earn the SEC East title on the road.
